40K Plaguebearer painting guide
The Skin
- Spray 'm black, paint 'm in patches of either catachan green or graveyard earth, soak them with thinned down chaos black paint. That's supposed to cover up all the places where spray cans can't reach, and provides a nice solid murky greenish-brownish-black base colour.
%u2013 If there are still places where the metal is showing, paint those with dark flesh. Paint some spots with dark flesh on other areas as well.
- Repaint the patches with their original colour again, leaving the dark base colour and patches of dark flesh visible in the recesses.
- Highlight the graveyard earth by blending with desert yellow and finish with commando khaki.
- Highlight the catachan green by blending with a mix of 50/50 catachan green and camo green and finish with pure camo green.
- Wash the bodies with either a mix of Purple and Chestnut Ink, or Brown and Dark Green Ink (Add water and Glaze Medium).
- Re-highlight with the last highlight colours again.
Detailing
-Eyes were painted black, then regal blue. After that, they were highlighted with hawk turquoise, and a small dot of ice blue.
-The stringy filth was basecoated tanned flesh, and then highlighted with dwarf flesh and elf flesh.
%u2013Bruised areas were glazed with some layers of thinned down ultramarine blue, and after that glazed again with a few layers of thinned down red gore. Red gore was painted into any holes and cracks in the skin.
-Wood was basecoated terracotta and highlighted with bubonic brown.
%u2013Weapons were painted Dark Flesh base --> VerminBrown stippling --> Fiery Orange stippling, and then some crude patches of Boltgun with Mithril highlights, followed by a wash with 25:25:50 Brown Ink:BestialBrown:water and a light re-stippling of Fiery Orange to get the orange bright again.
- Bandages were painted Kommando Khaki and washed with the same wash as the weapons, and then washed with the wash again, but with some red and purple ink added (this was also smeared on the weapons for blood). The bandages were then highlighted with Rotting Flesh, and the bloody areas on bandages and weapons given a third wash, this time with Tamiya Clear Red added.
Basing
The bases were covered in sand and cityfight rubble. The sand was painted black and then drybrushed codex grey. Some patches were drybrushed graveyard earth, followed by commando khaki.
The rim of the base was painted Vajjejo Dark Grey.
The puddles of slime are painted with PVA, left to dry, painted black, then catachan green, then highlighted with graveyard earth and soaked in gloss varnish.
